Best time to visit
Salento
The warm and sunny weather makes Salento worth being visited from March
to
October. Beach resorts are open from June to September. It is advisable to avoid the most crowded period
going from
late July to middle August, when most local and Italian people prefer to
take their vacations, according to a very typical Italian habit and
preference (the reason for that is a very popular holiday, "Ferragosto",
on August 15th). Or at least, book in advance.
How to reach Salento
By car:
arriving from the North-East side of Italy, follow the motorway A14
(Autostrada A14 “Adriatica”, E55); arriving from the North-West
side of Italy, follow the motorway A16 (Autostrada A16 “Napoli-Bari”), in
both cases head for Bari. From Bari take the highway SS 16 to Brindisi,
then follow to Lecce. For information about the italian motorway network,
visit the website of
Società Autostrade.
By train: Regular connections from Rome and Milan to Brindisi-Lecce. Visit the
official site of
Italian Railways (Trenitalia) for information, timetables
and online booking.

> From Europe
From Europe you will almost always find it cheaper to use a budget
airline when flying to Apulia and Salento. The companies sprung up in recent
years offer good connections inside Europe, with many
flights serving regional airports. However, if you want to fly more comfortably,
or if the budget airline timetables don't suit you, it is worth checking
the website of the major airlines (Alitalia, British Airways,
Lufthansa), who often have good offers (check our news section).
